Ocean Cruising Sailing Vessel
I designed this while taking the “Small Craft Design” as an undergraduate. The intent was to create a vessel capable of extended ocean crossing and off-grid living. As such, it has a robust renewable energy generation system via solar panels and an electric controllable pitch propeller that can double as a hydro-generator while under sail. The hull form was inspired by popular similar brands such as Catalina, Beneteau, and Tartan cruisers.
The final design is 39 feet in length, constructed with a fiberglass hull and carbon fiber mast. It has berthing for 4, space for one month of food rations, and a cruising speed of 7.5 knots while under power.
